Our Approach
CONSCIOUS LEADERSHIP
What is Conscious Leadership?
The definition we like the most comes from the Conscious Leadership Group (CLG), who define it as follows:
“To be present i.e. here, now, in a non-triggered, non-reactive state AND
to take full responsibility for your influence in the world”.
The first step in becoming a more conscious leader is to become aware of how present you are. To do this, conscious leaders use a simple model to locate themselves – above or below the line. When you are above the line you are open curious and willing to learning. When you are below the line you are closed, defensive and wanting to be right. At the beginning of this practice, most leaders don't realize how often they are below the line and in a state of reactivity. We support leaders to become skillfully aware of this.
How is this relevant in the workplace?
When leaders and teams are below the line and in a state of reactivity, it creates conflict and drama. This is a drain on energy and stifles innovation. We work with clients to pay close attention to this. Most leaders pay attention to content. i.e. "what" we are talking about. e.g. strategy, business plans, customers, etc. We support leaders to also pay attention to context i.e. "how" we are talking about something. This means asking "From where is this conversation occurring?" Is it coming from threat and fear or is it based in trust? Working on context supports the resolution of content, prevents issues from recycling and generates more creativity and innovation.
Do you want to create sustainable change?
Have more creativity, innovation and sustainable results?
Greater collaboration and less drama in the workplace?
More aliveness and balance in your life?
More freedom to lead effectively?
How do you shift to being above the line?
The game we encourage leaders to play is to locate themselves. Accurate location is the key because you cannot shift to become more present if you believe you are already there. We use many powerful moves to support you in returning to presence and leading from there. These include a set of tools and practices for the mind, body and emotions. It includes simple somatic moves (body), questioning your current beliefs (mind) and leveraging your emotional intelligence (heart). We coach and train at the individual, relationship and system-wide levels.
What kind of results can you expect by practicing Conscious Leadership?
When leaders shift their center of gravity from below to above the line, they become more authentic, more connected and more on purpose. It's a significant upgrade to the way they manage their energy and resources. Because far less energy is wasted on recycling issues, repressing feelings and concealing truths, much more energy is available for creating intended outcomes. They become less bound to their individual psychology and more free to lead.
